Just heard a young teacher set fire to himself outside #Mauritania presidential palace😦

  • a primary school teacher in Mauritania, Mohamed Abderrahmane Ould Bayezid had not been paid in months. His father was the Imam at a mosque until his death two years ago. Mohamed’s mother passed away just two months ago. This tragic event will be another shock to an already unsettled community.

  • Mohamed Bayezid was rushed to hospital with severe burn injuries to the lower half of his body, Mauritania media say, though they were not allowed to see him.  [Ar] http://snup.us/r6y

  • In Mauritania tomorrow, Tunisia’s Moncef Marzouki, @presidence_tn will hear of Mo Bayezid’s desperate act. Will he acknowledge the crisis in Mauritania, or will he continue to provide political succour and credibility to the abominable Aziz?
