Kidnapped gendarme Ely Ould Mokhtar

4 Mar: Taqadoumy.net was the first (unconfirmed) report I saw saying AQIM had not released Mauritania gendarme Ely Ould Mokhtar, nor Italian aid worker Rosella Urru yet. tw: [Ar] http://snup.us/tpj Apparently Taqadoumy news site phoned Ely’s wife for an update and was told he was not yet released. It is really disgraceful for official sources not to make some kind of statement.

3 Mar: Nightmare continues for Mauritania gendarme Ely & his family. No word from authorities & he’s still not home. Impossible to say “don’t panic” because it is such a stressful time for them, and they fear negotiations may have fallen through at the very last moment. Even though he called home, it was the second call they had from him and so we must consider the possibility that he was been speaking under duress. European press in Italy and Spain, following the story closely because of the Tindouf hostages, seem more confident. tw: [Ar] http://www.alakhbar.info/22876-0–F0CFC0F-F-.html

2 Mar: The government appears to have relented on their decision to allow AQIM to kill the kidnapped gendarme, Ely Ould Mokhtar, and everyone is celebrating confirmed news of his release. Ely reportedly called home from Bamako, where AQIM supposedly freed him & the Italian aid worker Rosella Urru

  1. Nightmare continues for #Mauritania gendarme Ely & his family. No word from authorities & he’s still not home. 2. UNCONFIRMED reports #AQIM has not released #Mauritania gendarme Ely nor Italian aid worker Rosella Urru yet! tw: [Ar] http://snup.us/tpj Apparently Taqadoumy news site phoned Ely’s wife for an update and was told he was not yet released. I should mention that because of previous issues with inaccurate news reporting, I can’t consider Taqadoumy the most reliable source. However, in the absence of any proof of their release this is the only news available. It is really disgraceful for official sources not to make some kind of statement.

  3. ANI source in #Mali: #Mauritania gendarme still in #AQIM camp. News of his release, and #Italy’s Rosella Urru, the kidnapped aid worker from Tindouf refugee camp taken with two Spanish colleagues in October 2011, really does seem premature, if not downright stupid. tw: [Ar] http://snup.us/tqs

  4. Incredibly, I just saw another “confirmed” report of #Mauritania gendarme Ely Ould Mokhtar being released. It was a post on FaceBook, no link. I can’t take much more of this, it must be complete agony for his wife and family. tw:
