Legendary Saharawi singer Mariem Hassan joins forces with Sandblast to launch Studio-Live at Sahara Nights on June 6 at London’s beloved Roundhouse (Studio Theatre). Mariem has been singing for her peoples’ cause since the seventies and will be performing for the first time in the British capital.
This is the first track I heard by Mariem, it remains on my favourites playlist:
The multi-arts evening compered by Dan Tsu from Lyrix Organix will include a spectacular line-up of live music and spoken word acts, with artists such as Ruby and the Vines, Inua Ellams, Luzmira Zerpa, Lizzie Ogle, Planetman and Kadialy Kouyate (tbc) coming together to promote music making for freedom through Studio-Live. Other special guests from the Sahara, the wonderful Hispano-Saharawi singer Suilma Aali and young English-speaking journalist Asria Taleb, will be joining us, too.
Spaces are limited, but Early Birds get a discount. Click here for tickets. You can also purchase a Superticket, which includes much-acclaimed Sandtracks album, by Saharawi refugee band Tiris (CDs will be handed out at the entrance).
