Why my old friend @talkaholic supports #Palestine hunger striking prisoners
1. I am against excessive use of arbitrary administrative detention.
The official public explanation of the use of administrative detention – the practice of arresting and holding persons without trial or informing them of what crimes they are suspected – is that doing so in open court could reveal sensitive intelligence collection methods and the identities of informants. Administrative detentions are usually secret orders for six-month periods of incarceration, which can be renewed indefinitely. In some cases, prisoners have been held without charge or trial for several years. (source:972 magazine)
330 Palestinians are being held in administrative detention with no formal charges having been brought against them in a court of law. 28 elected members of the parliament, and three former ministers fall within this category.
Israel is currently holding all these Palestinian prisoners far away from their homes, and outside of the occupied territory.
This constitutes a clear violation…
